Description: slender bodied; frontal profile rounded; mouth rather pointed and ventrally-oriented; caudal peduncle slender and relatively long (Ref. 52307).Coloration: body olive, belly paler than back; black longitudinal stripe runs from eye to origin of caudal fin; reddish dots often visible in soft dorsal fin and occasionally in caudal fin; anal fin with several small, blackish dots; egg spots absent (Ref. 52307).
Biology

Rheophilic (Ref. 52307). Collected from clear, fast-flowing waters. The type series was taken from down to 2 m depth close to the shore, over rocky bottoms. Water temperature was 20.7 °C, pH 6.8, conductivity 25.7 µS, dissolved oxygen 9.3 mg/l (Ref. 26626).

Orthochromis kalungwishiensis is a species of cichlid endemic to Zambia, where it is only known from the Kalungwishi River, a major tributary of Lake Mweru in the upper Congo River basin. This species can reach a length of 9.9 centimetres (3.9 in) SL.
