Carthamus lanatus (Woolly Distaff Thistle) is a species of annual herb in the family Asteraceae. They have a self-supporting growth form. They have simple, broad leaves and achenes. Flowers are visited by Heliothodes diminutiva. Individuals can grow to 0.54 m.
