Plants 1-3 dm. tall, the bulb-scales 3-ribbed ; leaves fully one half as tall as the scape or equaling it, the petioles glabrous ; leaflets 3, the blades crescentic to lunate, sometimes broadly so, 1.5-6 cm. wide, glabrous, bright-green above, pale-green beneath, the lobes ovate to oblong or lanceolate ; scapes glabrous ; cymes 4-8-flowered ; pedicels 1-4 cm. long, glabrous; sepals oblong to linear-oblong or oblong-lanceolate, 4.5-6 mm. long, glabrous, each bearing 4-6 more or less confluent apical tubercles ; petals violet, 15-20 mm. long ; shorter and larger filaments sometimes pubescent, unappendaged ; styles mostly pubescent ; capsules broadly oblong, 7-9 mm. long.
Ty'pe locality : Texas.
Distribution : Texas and New Mexico.

Ionoxalis madrensis Rose, sp. nov
Plants 15-30 cm. tall, the bulb-scales 3-ribbed; leaves about one half as tall as the scape, the petioles glabrous; leaflets 3, the blades obreniform, 1-1.5 cm. long, glabrous, bright-green above, paler beneath, rather deeply notched; scapes glabrous ; cymes 5-9flowered; pedicels 1.5-3 cm. long; sepals linear-lanceolate, 3.5^1 mm. long, glabrous, each with 2 short apical tubercles which are confluent at the apex and more or less lobed at the base; petals light-purple, 13-16 mm. long; shorter filaments glabrous; longer filaments pubescent, each with an appendage on the back; styles mostly pubescent ; capsules oblong, 8-10 mm. long.
Type collected on the mountains near Monterey, Mexico, C. G. Pringle 10219.
Distribution : Known only from the type locality.
