Plants 25-60 cm. tall, the bulb-scales several-ribbed ; leaves, at least some of them, often n earhas tall, as the scape, the petioles nearly glabrous, or with scattered hairs; leaflets 4 or 5, the blades 2-4 cm. long, obdeltoid, slightly refuse at the apex, pubescent at the base, bright-green and almost glabrous above, paler or sparingly pubescent beneath ; scape commonly bearing few hairs near the inflorescence ; cymes 6-15-flowered ; pedicels 1-2.5 cm. long, minutely viscid-pubescent ; sepals lanceolate to linear-lanceolate, 4.5-5.5 mm. long, minutely pubescent, each with 2 short apical tubercles ; petals violet, 15-20 mm. long ; shorter filaments glabrous ; longer filaments copiously pubescent, each with a prominent appendage near the base.

Distribution : Known only from the type locality.

Ionoxalis nelsonii Small, sp. nov Plants 25^15 cm. tall, tlie bulb-scales several-ribbed ; leaves shorter than the scape, the petioles sparingly pubescent ; leaflets mostly 5, the blades 2-4 cm. long, obovate, rounded and slightly notched or mucronate at the apex, deep-green above, bright-green beneath, glabrous except for occasional hairs beneath and on the margins ; scapes sparingly pubescent, or glabrous in age; cymes 5-11-flowered ; pedicels 1-3 cm. long, glabrous, at least in age ; sepals lanceolate to linear-lanceolate, 7.5-9 mm. long, more or less ciliolate, especially the outer ones which are purple-margined, each bearing two long apical tubercles ; petals deep-purple, 20-25 mm. long; shorter and longer filaments minutely pubescent, the longer ones each with a prominent appendage on the back.
Type collected on the western slope of Mt. Zempoaltepec, Oaxaca, Mexico, July 5-13, 1894, E. W. Nelson 550.
Distribution : Known only from the type locality.

Ionoxalis multiceps Small, sp. nov Plants 28-40 cm. tall, the bulb not seen ; leaves considerably shorter than the scape, the petioles closely pubescent with much-crisped hairs ; leaflets 4, the blades 3-3.5 cm. long, obovate, minutely notched at the rounded apex, bright-green above, ciliate with crisped hairs, clothed beneath with minute close-set whitish hairs; scape pubescent with scattered hairs which are more numerous near the inflorescence; cymes 9-31-flowered ; pedicels 1.52.5 cm. long, glabrous or slightly villous under the calyx ; sepals linear to linear-lanceolate, 5.5-6.5 mm. long, finely pubescent, each bearing two short apical tubercles; petals violet, 12-16 mm. long ; shorter filaments glabrous ; longer filaments pubescent above, each with a prominent appendage on the back below the middle.
Type collected, probably between Vera Cruz and Orizaba, Mexico, in 1854, Frederick Muller. Distribution : Known only from the type locality.
