Plemię obejmuje gatunki występujące w Ameryce Środkowej i Południowej[7].
Systematyka
Etymologia
Łacińskie sturnus – szpak. Być może również pamięci „Starling” (pol. szpak), okrętu który konwojował H.M.S. „Sulphur” podczas jego podróży do Brazylii i po Pacyfiku w 1836 roku; podczas tego rejsu zebrano okaz typowy[8].
Podział systematyczny
Do plemienia należy jeden rodzaj żółtobarczyk[6] (Sturnira) z następującymi gatunkami[6][7]:
