Występowanie
Zwierzę występuje na południowym wschodzie Stanów Zjednoczonych Ameryki[16]. Zostało też introdukowane do Portoryko[16]. Natomiast jego obecność w Meksyku podlega dyskusji[16].
Siedlisko tego zwierzęcia to bagna[16], mokradła[16], rzeki i strumienie[16], a także stawy i jeziora[16].
Rozmnażanie
Samce, usadowiwszy się nad wodą nawet do wysokości 5 metrów, nawołują swe wybranki[16]. Rozwój młodych przebiega w zbiornikach o wodzie stojącej, płytkiej[16].
Status
Populacja wydaje się stabilna, choć jej liczebność nie jest znana[16]. Zwierzę zamieszkuje w kilku terenach chronionych[16], nie wymaga żadnych dodatkowych środków ochrony[16].
