Monoecious herbs or shrubs Indumentum stellate. Leaves alternate, simple, entire. Inflorescences terminal, usually bisexual; male flowers aggregated into a dense terminal spherical head with 1-7 female flowers at the base. Male flowers: calyx closed in bud, splitting into 3-4 valvate lobes; petals 0; disk 0; stamens 6-8; pistillode entire or 2-3-fid. Female flowers: sepals 4-6, pinnatifid; petals 0; disk ring-shaped; styles 3, multifid. Fruit 3-lobed, dehiscent.

Cephalocroton is a genus of plant of the family Euphorbiaceae first described as a genus in 1841.^[1]^[2] It is native to central, eastern, and southern Africa from Nigeria and Ethiopia south to KwaZulu-Natal.^[3]^[4]

Use

The dead wood of some species can be used as a fumigant.

Cephalocroton es un género con 19 especies descritas y de estas, solo 4 aceptadas de plantas con flores perteneciente a la familia Euphorbiaceae.^[1]^[2]

Son nativas de África, Socotora, Madagascar, las Islas Comores y Sri Lanka.

Taxonomía

El género fue descrito por Christian Ferdinand Friedrich Hochstetter y publicado en Flora 24: 370. 1841.^[3] La especie tipo es: Cephalocroton cordofanus Hochst.
