Giant Reed is native to Pacific Basin excluding Hawaii, western north america, Iraq, Lebanon, India, Libya, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Algeria, Nepal, Myanmar, Japan, Tunisia, Taiwan, Jordan, Syria, Afghanistan, Southeast Asia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Georgia, Egypt, Iran, Bangladesh, Uzbekistan, China, Ukraine, and Azerbaijan. It has simple, broad leaves. It is a photoautotroph. Individuals can grow to 2.8 m.
