Cyperus distans (Piedmont Flatsedge) is a species of perennial grass in the family sedges. It has a self-supporting growth form. It is associated with freshwater habitat. Piedmont Flatsedge is native to Pacific Basin excluding Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the contiguous United States, Rio de Janeiro, Pará, Alagoas, Amazônia, Pampa, Pernambuco, Mato Grosso do Sul, Roraima, Ceará, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte, Amapá, Pantanal, Espirito Santo, Cerrado, Amazônia, Mata Atlântica, Goiás, Rio Grande do Sul, Maranhao, Sergipe, Paraíba, Tocantins, Mato Grosso, Acre (Brazil), Minas Gerais, Distrito Federal, São Paulo, Bahia, Rondônia, and Caatinga. It has simple, broad leaves. It is a photoautotroph.
