Plants (15–)20–30(–50+) cm. Stems proximally usually glabrous, sometimes piloso-hirsute (hairs 1–7+ mm) and/or stellate-pubescent, distally usually glabrous, sometimes piloso-hirsute (hairs 1–7+ mm) and/or stellate-pubescent. Leaves: basal (3–)5–8, cauline 0–3(–5); blades lanceolate to lance-elliptic, 50–120 × 6–18(–30) mm, lengths (3–)5–8+ times widths, bases cuneate, margins usually entire, sometimes denticulate, apices acute, faces usually piloso-hirsute (hairs 2–7+ mm) and stellate-pubescent, sometimes glabrous or glabrate. Heads (2–)5–12+ in paniculiform to corymbiform or subumbelliform arrays. Peduncles ± stellate-pubescent, sometimes stipitate-glandular as well. Calyculi: bractlets 8–13+. Involucres ± campanulate, 8–10+ (× 4–6) mm. Phyllaries 8–13+, apices rounded to acute, abaxial faces piloso-hirsute (hairs 0.5–2+ mm), stellate-pubescent, and stipitate-glandular. Florets 20–40+; corollas yellow, 8–10+ mm. Cypselae (black) columnar, 2.5–3 mm; pappi of 40–60+, white or stramineous bristles in ± 2 series, 4–6 mm.

Hieracium nudicaule is a North American plant species in the tribe Cichorieae within the family Asteraceae. It grows only in the western United States, primarily in California and Oregon, though with a few populations in Washington and northern Idaho.[2][3]

Hieracium nudicaule is an herb up to 50 cm (20 in) tall, with leaves on the stem and also in a rosette at the bottom. Leaves are up to 120 mm (4.7 in) long, sometimes with teeth on the edges. One stalk can produce 2-12 flower heads in a flat-topped array. Each head has 20-40 yellow ray flowers but no disc flowers.[4]
