Resident in a small region of the midwestern United States in North America (Scott 1986). Habitats are north-facing deciduous woods slopes and vicinity in Upper Austral to Transition zones. Host plants are usually herbaceous with most known hosts largely restricted to one genus, Aruncus (Rosaceae). Eggs are laid on the host plant singly. Larvae are tended by ants. Individuals overwinter as pupae. There is one flight each year with the approximate flight time Apr 1-May (Scott 1986).

Adults sip flower nectar and mud. Males patrol for females (Scott, 1986).
