Branched Bryozoans

provided by EOL authors

Also know as 'moss animals', bryozoans are small colonial animals. They can live upright, like Bugula territa pictured here, or encrusting, growing on top of algae, rocks, etc. Each member of the colony feeds with a comb-like structure known as a lophophore, which it uses to capture small particles such as plankton and detritis.
