North and boreal Atlantic, coast of Ireland, west Greenland Sea, central Arctic, south Sea of Okhotsk
Oceanic, abyssopelagic species. In the Arctic basin may be found closer to the surface (below 100m)
Female:
The posterior corners of the last thoracic segment have a triangular shape and reach about the middle of the genital segment. Rostrum is composed of a wide plate, which carries 2 short filaments on its outer corners.
A1 reach the front third of the abdomen.
The genital segment is 1.5 times longer than the next segment.
The anal segment is very small, barely visible.
Apical spines of the exopodites of P1-P4 are wide, finely serrated, the lateral spines on these branches are placed very close to each other. The exopodite of P1 has 3 outer spines.
P5 with 3 segments, each consecutive segment is much thinner than the previous, the distal segment carries 3 apical spines, which are short and coarsely serrated, poorly separated from the segment; and somewhat lower on the outer edge 1 short lateral spine.
Male:
The posterior corners of the last thoracic segment are not as elongated, rounded. A1 same length as in female, rostrum of the same structure. Anal segment is very tiny. The distal part of the 2nd basipodite of P1-P4 with a short complex spine, which has a bi- or trifurcate tip and carries small serrations.
The distal part of the second segment of the left P5 with a wide bubble-shaped structure, which is covered with small spines. The right P5 has a two-segmented exopodite, the first segment is very long and has an inner projection; the distal segment is axe-shaped.
