Lives in rocky, boulder strewn areas and walls. Lurks in holes, crevices and dark recesses. Constantly opens and closes it mouth, an action required for respiration, not a threat (Ref. 5227). Despite its large size, this fish is not consumed as food (Ref. 28023).

體延長而呈圓柱狀,尾部側扁。吻部稍長。後鼻孔不為長管狀。口裂大,上下頜呈勾狀向口內側彎曲,不能完全密合。上下頜齒二或三排;頜齒數量多且明顯外露。脊椎骨數148-153。體色為深褐色;體側有三排黃褐色苔狀斑點。

Enchelycore lichenosa is a moray eel found in coral reefs around Taiwan, southern Japan, and the Galapagos Islands.[2] It was first named by Jordan and Snyder in 1901,[2] and is commonly known as the reticulate hookjaw moray.[3] To respirate, the eel constantly opens and closes its mouth.[2]
