barbel with a small terminal bulb, much reduced in large specimens, bearing a slender appendage as long as or longer than bulb and forked at its distal end. Photophores in ventral row between pectoral and pelvic fin insertions (PV) 19–21. Color of head and body black; no white spots on upper side behind head.
