Description: Lithurgus gibbosus, fat happy bee, pollinating Pricklypear, enthusiastically! She seemingly swims through the stamens collecting the pollen grains, which stick to her furry belly for transport home. This member of the Megachilidae family (Leaf cutter bees) is a solitary bee and raises her young on her own. The pollen will be used, along with a little nectar, to make a "bee loaf" to feed her young :)
