See var. imbricata for general details. This variety is distinguished by having only single, 1-3-flowered clusters in the axils. The flowers are usually slightly larger with the corolla 7-12 mm long. The fruiting calyx is longer, 4-6.2 mm long. Leaves are often shorter, up to 8 × 6.4 mm. This variety is restricted the grasslands and bracken scrub in more montane highlands.
