It is native to Maranhao, Bahia, Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais, Amazônia, Rondônia, Mata Atlântica, Tocantins, Mato Grosso do Sul, Distrito Federal, Piauí, Roraima, São Paulo, Espirito Santo, Pará, Amazônia, Goiás, Sergipe, Paraná, Cerrado, Alagoas, and Amapá. Locustberry has simple, broad leaves. It is a photoautotroph. Individuals can grow to 3.5 m.
