Description

Succulent spiny single-stemmed tree with a crown of curved, ascending branches. Stem and branches 3-4-angled, constricted at the nodes; segments with parallel sides. Spine-shields stout and conspicuous. It is distinguished from var. rhodesiaca by its 3-4 angled trunk and single-stemmed trunk. It occurs at low altitudes in the South-East of Zimbabwe and South Africa.
