Cryptomonad flagellates, cells with rhinote anterior. Vestibulum located about one third of the of the cell from the apex; tubular gullet posterior. Periplast with internal and external hexagonal plates elevated anteriorly to accomodate underlying ejectisomes. Internal plates attached peripherally and posteriorly. The surface plates composed of short rod-like fibrils in a crystalline arrangement with coalescent boarders. The periplastidial compartment has a single chloroplast with a single pyrenoid lacking traversing thylakoids and a nucleomorph in a periplastidial cytoplasmic evagination into the pyrenoid.
