They are native to Middle America, Pacific Basin excluding Hawaii, Piauí, Bahia, Atlantic And Gulf Coastal Plain (Agcp), U.S. Virgin Islands, Caatinga, Mata Atlântica, Puerto Rico, Alagoas, and The Contiguous United States. They have compound, broad leaves. Flowers are visited by Lang's Short-tailed Blue, Phocides pigmalion, Florida Duskywing, and Dilemma Orchid Bee. Individuals can grow to 3.1 m.
