Bixa orellana is a species of tree in the family Bixaceae. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are native to Mata AtlâNtica, Roraima, Santa Catarina, Rio De Janeiro, Rio Grande Do Sul, Pernambuco, RondôNia, Espirito Santo, ParaíBa, Piauí, AmazôNia, Paraná, Mato Grosso, Bahia, Sergipe, SãO Paulo, Ceará, Maranhao, Cerrado, Minas Gerais, Amapá, Acre (Brazil), GoiáS, Pará, Tocantins, Alagoas, Mato Grosso Do Sul, AmazôNia, Distrito Federal, and Rio Grande Do Norte. They have simple, broad leaves. Flowers are visited by Epicharis lunulata and Augochloropsis ignita. Individuals can grow to 5.5 m.
