This species is distinguished by the following characters: anal fn is entirely behind the dorsal fin; multiserial teeth on premaxillary, maxillary, and dentary; predorsal scale rows > 70; longitudinal scale rows > 110; dorsal to lateral line scale row > 15; anal to lateral line scale rows > 17; branchiostegal rays 7; dorsal-fn rays < 15; precaudal vertebrae < 30; epurals 2; the lengths of head, snout, upper and lower jaws, orbit diameter, dorsal and anal fn bases are relatively short against standard length (Ref. 123515).
