Brief Summary

provided by EOL authors
There are around 2,300 species of mantis. These insects have large, spikey front legs that they use to grasp their prey. Mantises mainly eat insects, though some will also eat larger animals, including lizards and birds. Many mantises look a little like leaves or sticks. This helps them hide. The Praying Mantis is the best-known species of mantis.
