The first illustration of Dictyocysta mülleri by Müller (1843) as an item found in an echinoid gut, named by Imhof (1886) as a varierty of D. templum, var. mülleri.
From Jörgensen's monograph on Mediterranean tintinnids (1924, pg. 82). He named it as new crediting it to Brandt and Müller without any mention of Imhof to whom Kofoid & Campbell (1929) credit the species.
