One species: Amphizonella violacea Greeff, 1866. Test (round, bilayered pellicle; outer layer gelatinous 8-12 ìm; has fine denticles; inner layer thin chitinoid; undulates with internal movements, sac-like, pseudostome invaginated, variable. Size 125 - 200 ìm. Pseudopods: cylindroid, finely granular, rounded ends. Movements sluggish. Endoplasm: clear, violet; yellow granules in purple vesicles (digestion products of cyanobacteria?). One ovular nucleus. Contractile vacuoles: 20 to 30 µm. Crystals: none. Cysts reported. Feeding: algivore. Habitat: sphagnum mosses.

Test discoid (resting form) 140 to 160 µm, locomotive, pyriform, 220 to 250 µm long. Test: chitinoid pellicle, without mucilaginous envelope, flexible, follows the movements of the cell.
