a male Macroglenes herbaceus parasitoid wasp of the family Pteromalidae and tribe Pireninae found at the edge of the ride in Bixley Wood. Lots of additional pictures below - all viewable larger with a click. Note the almost linear gaster, massive eyes with facets that are smaller lower on the eye and larger nearer the top, antennae with segments 1-3 smaller than 4, 1-4 combined are shorter than the pedicel, basal cell with 2 rows of hairs, speculum stretches from basal cell all the way to the stigmal vein and beyond. A remarkable looking wasp - thanks are owed to David Notton for pointing out the genus.
