Sexual dimorphism; males form an elongated irregular bent first dorsal spine. They use barbels otherwise hidden in a fold of the upperlip to get a hold on the female while they insert their pseudopenis formed by the anal fin. Type of spawning (ovipar or vivipar) is unknown.
