Peltodytes, Syn. Cnemidotus ist eine Gattung der Käfer aus der Familie der Wassertreter (Haliplidae). Sie kommt in Europa mit zwei Arten vor.[1]
Die Käfer sehen denen der Gattung Haliplus sehr ähnlich unterscheiden sich von dieser jedoch durch ihre stark gewölbte, buckelige Körperform, die sehr grobe punktförmige Struktur ihrer Oberfläche, einen feinen unpunktierten Streifen auf der hinteren Hälfte der Deckflügel nahe der Flügeldeckennaht und längere Endglieder der Tarsen.
Die Tiere leben ähnlich wie die der Gattung Haliplus an Wasserpflanzen in stehenden oder langsam fließenden Gewässern.

Rodzaj opisany został w 1859 roku przez Maurice'a Auguste'a Régimbarta. Gatunkiem typowym został Dytiscus caesus Duftschmid 1805[1].
Ciało o krępe, silnie wypukłe, gładkie i błyszczące. Ostatni człon głaszczków szczękowych dłuższy od przedostatniego i o zbliżonej do niego szerokości. Przedplecze trapezowate. Pokrywy z wyraźną przyszwową rysą w tylnej części. Wyrostek zapiersia duży, szeroki i dołeczkowany. Płytki zabiodrza duże, dochodzące do podgięć pokryw i VI sternitu odwłoka, obrzeżone po bokach i z tyłu. Na wewnętrznej powierzchni goleni tylnych odnóży obecna rysa wyposażona w szczecinki. Kolce goleni odnóży środkowych i tylnych z błonką po bokach[2].
Rodzaj zamieszkuje strefę umiarkowaną i tropikalną całego świata z wyjątkiem Ameryki Południowej i Oceanii[2]. W Polsce występuje tylko P. (P.) caesus[3]
