बाँझ नेपाल लगायत उत्तरी भारत, म्यानमार, पाकिस्तान तथा श्रीलङ्कामा पाइने गर्छ। यो वनस्पति नेपालमा समुन्द्र सतहबाट १५०० देखी २७०० मिटरको उचाईका जङ्गलहरूमा पाइने गर्छ।[३]

Quercus lanata, the woolly-leaved oak,[3] is a species of Quercus native to southern and southeastern Asia, including India (from eastern Uttarakhand to Arunachal Pradesh), Bhutan, Nepal, Indochina (Vietnam, Myanmar, northern Thailand), and southwestern China (Guangxi, Tibet, Yunnan). It is a large evergreen tree up to 30 metres (100 feet) tall. The leaves are thick and leathery, green on top but covered in thick wool on the underside.[4][5] It is classified in subgenus Cerris, section Ilex.[6]
This oak tree grows up to 20 m tall, and under the synonym Quercus oblongata has been recorded from Vietnam, where it may be called sồi bạc[7] or sồi bạch mao.[8]

Quercus oblongata D.Don – gatunek roślin z rodziny bukowatych (Fagaceae Dumort.). Występuje naturalnie w północnych częściach Pakistanu i Indii, w Nepalu, północnych częściach Mjanmy i Tajlandii oraz w Wietnamie[3][4][5].
Występuje na wysokości od 1200 do 2400 m n.p.m.[8] Kwitnie od kwietnia do maja[6]. Dobrze rośnie na glebach wapiennych. Charakteryzuje się wolnym tempem wzrostu – dwuletnia sadzonka mierzy 25–30 cm wysokości. Preferuje stanowiska w pełnym nasłonecznieniu lub półcieniu. Występuje w 7. strefie mrozoodporności – toleruje spadki temperatur do -12°C[7].
Gatunek ten rośnie między innymi w Park Narodowy Wielkich Himalajów w północnych Indiach. Rośnie powszechnie w lasach w dolinie rzeki Tirthan[8].
