Adults are found in the intertidal areas and shallow coastal reefs (Ref. 8631, 48636). They inhabit rubble and algae reefs (Ref. 48636). Oviparous. Eggs are demersal and adhesive (Ref. 205), and are attached to the substrate via a filamentous, adhesive pad or pedestal (Ref. 94114). Larvae are planktonic, often found in shallow, coastal waters (Ref. 94114). Minimum depth of 0 m reported from Ref. 90102.

體長橢圓形,稍側扁;頭鈍短。頭頂無冠膜;鼻鬚、眼上鬚和頸鬚分支。上下唇平滑,齒小可動,上下顎齒大小相同。背鰭具缺刻,背鰭與尾柄相連,臀鰭部份與尾柄相連。體側有7-8對黑褐帶或擴大成寬帶,頭及體側散布大小不一之卵形淡斑;胸部具黃至橘色大型圓斑;沿著背鰭基部另具一列暗色至橘色斑點。
棲地

主要棲息於沿岸具藻叢之珊瑚礁平台及岩石區等。以藻類、碎屑等為食。
