Pomatoschistus tortonesei, Tortonese's goby, is a species of goby native to the Mediterranean Sea where it is known from Marsala, Sicily and the Farwah Lagoon in western Libya. This species occurs in shallow waters ranging in salinity from brackish to just slightly hypersaline. It prefers habitats with sandy substrates near to beds of seagrass. Its diet consists of small crustaceans and gastropods.[2] It is threatened by the fragmentation and destruction of its preferred habitat by silting.[1] The specific name honours the Italian zoologist Enrico Tortonése (1911-1987) of the Museo Civico di Storia Naturale di Genova.[3]

Il ghiozzetto di Faro o ghiozzetto di Tortonese (Pomatoschistus tortonesei) è un piccolo pesce d'acqua salmastra appartenente alla famiglia dei Gobiidae.

Distribuzione ed habitat

Il suo areale è limitato alle acque basse di alcune lagune a salinità variabile con rocce e praterie in Sicilia (lagune di Tindari, Marsala e Faro) ed in Libia (laguna di Farwah). La specie è altamente eurialina.

Descrizione

Appare assai simile ai congeneri rispetto ai quali si riconosce, oltre che per il peculiare habitat ed il ridotto areale, per i seguenti caratteri:

  • testa e corpo massicci (relativamente alle sue minuscole dimensioni)
  • gola e ventre giallo acceso nella femmina e giallastre nel maschio
  • colorazione marrone chiaro con striature verticali più scure.

Le dimensioni sono minuscole dato che non supera i 3,5 cm ed usualmente è assai più piccolo.

Alimentazione

Basata su invertebrati come Crostacei e Gasteropodi.

Pesca

Occasionale e di nessun interesse.

Pomatoschistus tortonesei is een straalvinnige vissensoort uit de familie van grondels (Gobiidae).[2] De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1969 door Miller.

De soort staat op de Rode Lijst van de IUCN als Bedreigd, beoordelingsjaar 2007.[1]
