Similar to R. cereum^ the twigs and foliage almost identical with those of that species. Racemes few-flowered, pendulous, mostly shorter than the leaves, puberulent and usually glandular ; bracts rhombic, acute or obtuse, 5-7 mm. long, much longer than the pedicels, entire-margined or occasionally with a lateral lobe or tooth, usually glandular-ciliate ; hypanthium tubular, 5-8 mm. long, 3 to 4 times longer than thick, usually pink or pinkish ; sepals ovate, acutish, about 2 mm. long ; ovary with stalked glands ; styles usually glabrous ; berry bright-red, glandular or rarely smooth, 6-8 mm. in diameter.
Type locality : Not given ; described from cultivated plants.
Distribution : Northeastern Nevada, eastern Idaho, and Montana to South Dakota, western Nebraska, New Mexico, Arizona, and the Sierra Nevada of middle California.
