Die turksvy (Opuntia tuna) is 'n plant in die kaktusfamilie, Cactaceae. Turksvye is van Suid-Amerika na Suid-Afrika gebring, en word oor die algemeen as 'n ernstige pes en bedreiging beskou.

Turksvye het oorspronklik slegs in die Westelike Halfrond, oor die grootste gedeeltes van Noord- en Suid-Amerika, voorgekom. In die laat 1800's is turksvye na Australië gebring, waar hulle groot ekologiese skade in die oostelike state aangerig het. Hulle word ook in die Mediterreense streke van Noord-Afrika aangetref, veral in Tunisië, die mees noordelikste land van Afrika, sowel as die suidelike dele van Europa, veral op die eiland van Malta.

Die spesie kan met behulp van die turksvyvlieg uitgeroei word. Dit kan ook uitgekap en as veevoer gebruik word, maar die dorings moet eers afgebrand word.

Opuntia tuna ist eine Pflanzenart in der Gattung der Opuntien (Opuntia) aus der Familie der Kakteengewächse (Cactaceae).

Beschreibung

Opuntia tuna wächst strauchig mit mehreren Zweigen und erreicht eine Wuchshöhe von bis zu 1 Meter. Die umgekehrt-eiförmigen bis länglichen Triebabschnitte sind hellgrün und 8 bis 10 (selten 16) Zentimeter lang. Die kleinen Laubblätter fallen frühzeitig ab. Die großen Areolen tragen gelbe Glochiden und 2 bis 6 leicht gespreizte blassgelbe Dornen.

Die hellgelben Blüten besitzen einen rötlichen Farbton und erreichen einen Durchmesser von bis zu 5 Zentimetern. Die roten Früchte sind umgekehrt-eiförmig und weisen einen Durchmesser von bis zu 3 Zentimetern auf.

Verbreitung und Systematik

Opuntia tuna ist in der Dominikanischen Republik, Jamaika und auf weiteren karibischen Inseln verbreitet.

Die Erstbeschreibung als Cactus tuna erfolgte 1753 in Species Plantarum durch Carl von Linné.[1] Philip Miller ordnete sie 1768 der von ihm aufgestellten Gattung Opuntia zu.[2]

Descripción

Tuna Opuntia es un arbusto con múltiples ramas que alcanza una altura de hasta 1 metro. Los cladodio son ovados a oblongos de color verde claro y de largo 8 a 10 (raramente 16) cm. Las pequeñas hojas se caen prematuramente. Los grandes areolas con gloquidios amarillos y 2 a 6 espinas ligeramente extendidas de color amarillo pálido. Las flores son amarillas brillantes con un tinte rojizo y alcanzan un diámetro de hasta 5 centímetros. Los frutos son rojos ovoides y tienen un diámetro de hasta 3 centímetros.

Etimología

Opuntia: nombre genérico que proviene del griego usado por Plinio el Viejo para una planta que creció alrededor de la ciudad de Opus en Grecia.[2]

tuna: epíteto derivado de un nombre nativo de Centroamérica.
