Son yerbes añales, erectas o ascendentes; los tarmos algamen un tamañu d'hasta 0.6 m d'altu, glabros, colloraos o verdes. Fueyes oblongues, de 6–35 mm de llargu y 4–12 mm d'anchu, ápiz arrondáu o obtusu, base oblicua, obtusa a cordada, marxes serraos, glabres; estípules xuníes, deltaes, hasta 1 mm de llargu, enteres o estremaes. Ciatios en címulas llaterales y terminales cuasi afiles, 0.5–1 mm de llargu, glabres, pedúnculu 3–12 mm de llargu, glándules elíptiques a suborbiculares, apéndices cuasi obsoletos a conspicuos, blancos a rosaos. Cápsules subglobosas, 1–1.5 mm de llargu, glabres; granes ovoides, obtusamente 4-angulaes, ca 0.8 mm de llargu, engurriaes, cafés.[1]
Distribuyir dende'l sur de los Estaos Xuníos hasta Arxentina y nes Antilles, introducida nos trópicos del Vieyu Mundu. Crez a veres de caminos, maleza común en milpas, acomuñada a vexetación ensin alteriar o alteriada de montes tropicales subperennifolio y perennifolio.
Nel Estáu d'Hidalgo, aprovéchense les fueyes fresques p'aplicales sobre los granos; en Veracruz utilízase-y como anticrotálico.
Úsase-y como antisépticu y pal aséu extraocular por adhesividad, pa maurecer escayos y quitar mezquinos, cuando hai falta de mambís, como antiinflamatoriu, pa machucones y golpes.
Nel sieglu XVI, el Códice Florentino señala'l so usu pa solliviar quebraduras de los güesos de los pies, aplicando llocalmente el raigañu en polvu seco. Pela so parte, Francisco Hernández de Toledo nel mesmu sieglu comenta: la lleche d'esta planta tien propiedaes cáustiques, abre los tumores, escome y consume la carne sano o cualquier escrecencia. Lliga, el cocimientu de les fueyes hasta amenorgar l'agua a la metá, ya inxeríu col estómagu vacíu, mata los merucos y evacua tolos humores, principalmente los flemáticos.
Esta planta contién ésteres de forbol un glicósido y un alcaloide.[2]

Euphorbia: nome xenéricu que remanez del médicu griegu del rei Juba II de Mauritania (52 a 50 e. C. - 23), Euphorbus, nel so honor – o n'alusión al so gran banduyu – yá que usaba médicamente Euphorbia resinifera. En 1753 Carlos Linneo asignó'l nome a tol xéneru.[3]

Se distribuye desde el sur de los Estados Unidos hasta Chile y en las Antillas, introducida en los trópicos del Viejo Mundo. Crece a orillas de caminos, maleza común en milpas, asociada a vegetación no alterada o perturbada de bosques tropicales subperennifolio y perennifolio.
En el Estado de Hidalgo, se aprovechan las hojas frescas para aplicarlas sobre los granos; en Veracruz se le utiliza como anticrotálico.
Se le usa como antiséptico y para el aseo extraocular por adhesividad, para madurar espinas y quitar mezquinos, cuando hay falta de apetito, como antiinflamatorio, para machucones y golpes.
En el siglo XVI, el Códice Florentino señala su uso para aliviar quebraduras de los huesos de los pies, aplicando localmente la raíz en polvo seco. Por su parte, Francisco Hernández de Toledo en el mismo siglo comenta: la leche de esta planta tiene propiedades cáusticas, abre los tumores, corroe y consume la carne sana o cualquier excrecencia. Agrega, el cocimiento de las hojas hasta reducir el agua a la mitad, e ingerido con el estómago vacío, mata las lombrices y evacua todos los humores, principalmente los flemáticos.
