Malacosarcus is a monotypic genus of pricklefish found in the western central Pacific Ocean and possibly the northeast Atlantic Ocean at depths of from 2,777 to 4,438 metres (9,111 to 14,560 ft). It's only known species is Malacosarcus macrostoma.[2]

Malacosarcus macrostoma is een straalvinnige vissensoort uit de familie van doornvissen (Stephanoberycidae).[1] De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1878 door Günther.
