Closely related to the red-eyed vireo, its plumage a duller overall. It measures 14.5–15.5 cm (5.7–6.1 in). It has a stout, hooked bill that is gray, paler at the base. A broad white eyebrow contrasts with a dull gray crown. A broad dark stripe runs through the brown eye. Upperparts are a dull olive gray. Throat and underparts are whitish. The wings and tail are dark with olive green margins. Legs and feet are grayish blue.[2]
Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests, subtropical or tropical mangrove forests, and heavily degraded former forest.
It is found in Belize, Honduras, Mexico, as well as on Grand Cayman. There is a well-documented record from High Island, Texas, in 1984, but this is the only record for the United States.[3]
Four subspecies are recognized, the large number reflecting its distribution amongst far-flung islands and a small strip of the mainland.[4]

Se distribuye en la península de Yucatán en México y Belice e islas adyacentes de México, Belice y Honduras y en las Islas Cayman.[4] Existe un único registro documentado en los Estados Unidos, en Texas.[5]
Su hábitat preferencial es el bosque seco y los matorrales húmedos tropicales y subtropicales.[1]

Le Viréo du Yucatan (vireo magister) est une espèce de passereaux appartenant à la famille des Vireonidae.
Le Viréo du Yucatan a la calotte et les parties supérieures grisâtres. Sa face est blanche où l'on distingue un fin trait sombre traversant l'œil. La gorge, la poitrine et le dessous sont blancs tandis que les flancs sont grisâtres.
On le trouve au Belize, aux Caïmans, aux Etats-Unis (Texas), au Honduras, au Mexique et sur certaines îles de la Mer des Caraïbes.
Le viréo du Yucatan vit dans les mangroves et les bas buissons des forêts tropicales.
Il suspend, à une fourche d'arbre, son nid composé de lanières d'écorce, d'herbe fine, de fibres végétales et de toiles d'araignée.
Il pond généralement entre 3 et 5 œufs blancs mouchetés de taches brunes ou noires.
